Born in Middletown, Ohio, Senator Vance studied political science and philosophy at OSU before earning a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School. Before his career in politics, Senator Vance served in the US Marines and was deployed to Iraq. Following his military career, Senator Vance worked as a corporate lawyer and then as a principal at Peter Thiel’s venture capital firm Mithril Capital. Then in 2016, Senator Vance wrote his New York Times best-seller “Hillbilly Elegy”. First elected to the US Senate in 2022, Senator Vance has been an influential voice in conservative politics. He will discuss the future of the Republican party and the challenges facing our nation.

Also highlighting the event will be Jeffrey Sikkenga, Executive Director of The Ashbrook Center, located at Ashland University. The Ashbrook Center’s mission is to revive the teaching of America's founding principles in schools, colleges, and universities. In addition to being executive director of the Ashbrook Center and a professor at Ashland University, Mr. Sikkenga also has been a senior fellow in the Program on Constitutionalism and Democracy at the University of Virginia, a visiting scholar at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, and the William E. Simon Distinguished Visiting professor at the School of Public Policy at Pepperdine University.
